FESTIVAL OF MEDIEVAL CULTURE “RUBON”
The Festival of Medieval Culture “Rubon” was the first event that took place in Polotsk in the frame of EU project “BELLA DVINA 2”.
On 1-3 June 2012, the oldest Belorussian city of Polotsk hosted the 4th Festival of Medieval Culture “Rubon” as part of its 1150th anniversary festivities. This year the event was organised in the framework of EU project “Fostering Capacity for Tourism Development in Latgale-Utena-Vitebsk Cross Border Region” (LLB-1-098) (BELLA DVINA 2), which is being implemented within the Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus Cross-border Cooperation Programme.
The name of festival “Rubon” comes from the ancient name of Western Dvina. The festival was held in the park at the Immortality Barrow. Historically there has been the Western Dvina Island with the St. John the Baptist monastery on it. Press release RU
