The Joint Managing Authority of the Programme (the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania) signed the 1st Grant Contract of the Programme on the 1st of September 2011. The Grant Contract was signed with the State Border Guard Service at the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, acting as the Beneficiary of the project no LLB-1-050 “Strengthening security and facilitating cross-border cohesion through improvement of entry/exit infrastructure at Lithuanian-Belarusian border crossing points”.
The project aims at strengthening the security in the border-control points on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border through installing the equipment needed for the check of electronic travel documents and the personal identification of biometric data. Also, the entry-exit control system will be improved. The budget of the project is over 1,6 mln. Euro. Over 90% of this sum is funded by the European Union European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI). This makes almost 1,5 mln. Euro.
The Grant Contracts with the remaining 17 projects approved for EU funding during the 1st Call for Proposals are in process of preparation for signature.
