PROBLEM: The Latgale region in Latvia and the Vitebsk Oblast in Belarus have rich culinary traditions and special culinary heritage. However, the catering companies, specialising in culinary heritage are incapable of offering high standart services due to the lack of marketing and other skills and capacity. Moreover, the culinary heritage of the Latvian and Belarusian border regions is poorly promoted. This way it fails to become one of the strengths of the tourism sector.
OBJECTIVES: The project aims at contributing to the promotion of socio-economic development and encouragement of business and entrepreneurship through promotion of culinary heritage. 11 project partners and one associate intend to achieve this by improving the net of culinary service in Latgale and Vitebsk regions, basing on the culinary heritage concept, which will improve the capacity of culinary service businesses. As a result of the project the joint international BELLA CUISINE centre will be launched.
This project was aimed at creation of the cross-border culinary heritage tourism route, where traditional Latvian and Belarusian cuisine would be combined with contemporary high-quality service. Over 100 entrepreneurs, working in the field of culinary heritage have been trained as a result of the project.
Vitebsk Oblast has gained the membership in the Europe Culinary Heritage network.
International Centre of Culinary Heritage opened in Kraslava, where people can acquaint with the specificities of Latvian and Belarusian cuisine and get directions to the best catering places. A number of brochures promoting the region were issued and 3 international food festivals were held.
